The pharmaceutical /laboratory research industry(s) sterilize their equipment and/or tools with nitrogen to prevent the spread of germs and bacteria, and therefore contamination.
Nitrogen is used in the steel and aluminum industries to prevent the risk of oxidation of raw materials.
It was discovered some time ago that using nitrogen place of oxygen to inflate tires to pressure greatly reduces tire temperature experienced during periods of high rolling resistance, which in turn reduces the risk of tire puncture. For this reason, nitrogen has been used in commercial airline and Formula 1 racing applications.
From all of the above, it is quite evident that nitrogen applications are increasingly wide-spread.
